Peter Barrett is a Partner in the Life Sciences group and joined Atlas Venture in 2002. Previously, he was a co-founder, Executive Vice President and
Chief Business Officer of Celera Genomics. Within two years of the founding of the company (1998), Celera announced the first successful sequencing of the human genome.
Peter helped launch Celera as a publicly traded entity in 1999, and it became a leading force within the biotechnology industry. Peter led Celera’s expansion
into drug discovery and development, forging strategic alliances with technology companies and leading the acquisition of Axys Pharmaceuticals.
Prior to Celera, Peter held senior management positions at The Applera Corporation, most recently serving as Vice President, Corporate Planning and Business Development.
Additional managerial roles included Executive Vice President of the Applied Biosystems Division of Perkin-Elmer. Peter currently serves on the boards of Atlas portfolio
companies Archemix, Aureon Laboratories, Helicos Biosciences (NASDAQ: HLCS), InfaCare Pharmaceuticals, Stromedix, Vitae Pharmaceuticals and Zafgen. He is chairman of the
board at Zafgen.
Peter is currently Vice Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Barnett Institute of Chemical and Biological Analysis at Northeastern University, as well as Adjunct
Professor at the Barnett Institute. He also serves as President of the Autism Consortium, a nonprofit institution and as a member of the Children’s Hospital of Boston
Research Committee. Peter received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Lowell Technological Institute (now known as the University of Massachusetts, Lowell) and
his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Northeastern University. He also completed Harvard Business School’s Management Development Program.
Mr. Datin joined Safeguard as Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Life Sciences Group in September 2005. Mr. Datin served as Chief Executive Officer of Touchpoint Solutions, Inc., a provider of software that enables customers to develop and deploy applications, content and media on multi-user interactive devices, from December 2004 to June 2005; Group President in 2004 and Group President, International, from 2001 to 2003, of Dendrite International, Inc., a provider of sales, marketing, clinical and compliance solutions and services to global pharmaceutical and other life sciences companies; Group Director, Corporate Business Strategy and Planning at GlaxoSmithKline, from 1999 to 2001, where he also was a member of the company's Predictive Medicine Board of Directors that evaluated acquisitions and alliances; and Chief Executive Officer of Isuta Holdings Berhad, a publicly traded distributor and manufacturer of medical and clean room products, from 1997 to 1999. His prior experience also includes international assignments with and identifying strategic growth opportunities for E Merck and Baxter.
Edward L. Erickson, MS, MBA
Edward L. Erickson is a consultant to life science companies and venture capital firms. He has extensive experience in the diagnostic, pharmaceutical and life-science research products industries having served as president, CEO or a director of over a dozen such companies, four of which successfully completed IPOs during his tenure. He has raised a total of approximately $500,000,000 in equity and debt capital in both the private and public capital markets. Additionally, he has considerable experience gained earlier in his career in defense, energy and information technology. He did military service as an officer in the U.S. Navy's Nuclear Submarine Program and served aboard the U.S.S. Nautilus (SSN-571), the World's first nuclear submarine. Mr. Erickson holds a BS with distinction in Mathematics with a minor in Physics and an MS in Mathematics from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He received an MBA with high distinction from Harvard University where he was elected a Baker Scholar and was awarded the Loeb Rhodes Fellowship in Finance.

Mr. Fleming has been in the investment business for over twenty years, starting and financing growth companies in the United States, Europe, and Israel. Prior to joining OBP in 1996,
he was a Founding General Partner of MVP Ventures in Boston, MA. He began his investment career with TVM Techno Venture Management in Munich, Germany. Mr. Fleming has also co-founded
Medica Venture Partners, a venture capital investment firm specializing in early stage healthcare and biotechnology companies in Israel. Mr. Fleming holds a Master’s degree in Public
Administration from Princeton University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley. Mr. Fleming is on the board of Asterand plc (LSE: ATD) and is a director
